Location
The Azul de Cortés development will be built on the site of El
Saltito in the town of
La Paz, in Baja California Sur.
The terrain
has two distinguishing features: a coastal plain that drops gradually down to the
coastline of the Gulf of California, and an extensive mountain range whose peaks
overlook the sea on one side and the desert-like interior on the other.
Due to the way the land fans out, even areas that lie far from the coast have magnificent
sea views. This offers excellent possibilities for a development which is based
on a concept of the relationship of the parts to the whole. The gradient of the
coastal plain is ideally suited to the development, with its gentle slopes offering
expansive coastal views. Towards the sea, the land opens onto miles of white, sandy
beaches bathed in a turquoise sea, making this a truly exceptional destination.
From the beach the resort is framed by the surrounding mountains that define and
outline the land.
In the mountains, the rugged peaks play with aspects of the landscape, revealing
and then hiding views of the coast. This serves to turn the descent to the coast
into a gradual discovery of the area, and all the more special for that. As you
cross the watershed, the coast disappears from sight and the landscape is transformed
into a valley, that has been carved out by rivers and is flooded in the rainy season.
This is a very inland landscape, with limited views of the mountains, made up of
isolated areas with no overview of the surrounding terrain. There is an introspective
feel to the land, which bestows a sense of privacy and seclusion.
